Current State of Tourism Industry in Bangladesh: An Empirical Study
The aim of this study is to observe the current state of tourism industry in Bangladesh as well as to forecast the number of tourist arrivals in the upcoming years on the basis of data from the year 1991 to 2013. It is found that tourist arrivals might be 11166008 and 11193668 for the year 2016 and 2021 respectively if Business goes on as usual. The growth rate of tourist arrivals increased to 15.5 percent in 2013 from negative -24.0 percent in 2012. In 2013, Bangladesh earned 0.41 percent of total export earnings from tourism compared to the preeceding year where this was 0.38 percent. In 2013, Bangladesh,India,Nepal and Maldives received 0.41 percent,4.1 percent ,21 percent and 82.3 percent respectively from tourists as a percentage of total export earning. Among these four countries Bangladesh earned the lowest.
